Focus on health and staying on track

Good afternoon. So, this week has primarily had me focused on keeping my goals and my health on the right track. Annual physical, eye exam, mammogram, and discussions on my concerns with current workout routines, weight, etc. It is very important for each of us to have a good, honest, open communication line with our health care professional. I absolutely love my primary care team; so much so, that I referred a contact to them. This says a lot about your primary health care team. Are you comfortable with the team? Do you agree or like how they handle your concerns? Do they listen to your needs?

If we are to stay on track and stay motivated, sometimes we need to hear the very words we tell our clients who are seeking weight loss, healthier lifestyles, etc. We have to remind ourselves that health and well being are not solely focused on one component. Most of us focus on weight and the number on that scale (and yes, I am guilty of this too). We may not like the numbers on the scale, but what about our cholesterol levels? What about our A1C to check for diabetic risk? What about our kidney and liver function? You see; there are so many more components that determine good health and well being.

Remind yourself daily, you are beautiful because you are kind, you are committed to eating right, you take initiative to work out and you try to be a good person. Don’t discount all the good qualities based on one aspect of your physical appearance. Don’t discount your intelligence if you are not strong in ALL subject matter of life. Though you may have many years of life experience and education, you can be good or bad based on many factors. Someone who shames another by exploiting a weakness or flaw is not a good person, no matter how well educated or how much life experience you have.

So, as I focused again on my annual check up, I have a follow up in six months to ensure I’m staying on track, I feel okay with my current status, and that I’m not going to seek an easy way out. I understand medicines are needed in some situations, but I would much rather push myself to have stronger will power and to focus on why I am eating more fruits and vegetables (over and above what I eat now). I would rather make more effort to stay properly hydrated, to focus on healthy portions, and to boost workouts, if needed.

I hope everyone is having a good week and staying healthy. Please remember, you are unique for so many good reasons. Stay focused on why you should honor yourself with health and well being. Stay devoted to caring for you as you would lovingly care for a child, a parent, a beloved pet, or a special person in your life. Despite all the negativity and the hateful behavior we see daily, we can rise above and we can stay empathetic. Have an amazing day and as always; stay healthy, stay focused and stay hydrated.
