A less stressed you
Happy Monday!!!!! Who says Mondays are happy? Any day can be happy if you want. You can be happy. So are you the one looking away and day dreaming or the one peeping around the side about to get into some mischief? No matter which one you are, you can be happy in either position. How did your weekend go? How did your day start today? Do you have boundless energy or are you ready to call it a day now? Can you truly release stress throughout the day and maintain a “zen” state of mind? Well, all of these questions are up to you to answer and to decide who sets the tone for your day.
Some of us work for a company and had to return to the office. Some of us just don’t have enough discipline or focus to remain working from home. That’s okay. Some of us are truly blessed to work at being self employed. We have drive, we are enthusiastic, but maybe we need better direction. Some of us may be retired or getting ready to retire and wonder what our days will be like when we finally give up that commute; that stress of the office, and the joy of setting our own schedule. And some of us are upset that all those years we spent laboring to build a nice nest egg now don’t mean as much because we have limited mobility, we are not well, or we just have no means to fulfill our dreams.
Well, guess what? You can change certain parameters if you want to badly enough. You can work on becoming more mobile and more flexible, you can work on enjoying being a volunteer, you can read, you can garden, you can travel, you can change your health to the extent that you are capable of. Now, what do we mean by “the extent you are capable of?” Well, if you have limited mobility, stretch to the extent you are able to. If you have a more serious health issue, such as COPD, then do shorter walks, less intense cardio activity and focus on trying to breathe to the extent you are able to or capable of.
We can screw up our health and well being but a lot of times, we can make some beneficial changes and get our health and well being back on track as well. We can commit to being stronger and making ourselves better. We can really strive to eat healthier, to work out, to meditate, and to be more flexible. We can spend less time watching “reality television,” and participate in true reality. We can enjoy the beauty of a walk through the park, the beauty of nature, and yes, we can choose to change or stay inactive.
I chose long ago to keep moving, to watch my weight, to eat better, to make better choices and while some things are a work in progress, we can get better if we truly want to. So, watch our week 1 and week 2 modules of mindfulness and see where you can start by reducing stress, by being more focused and more present, and by making a better choice the moment you open your eyes to set a positive tone to your entire day. One moment can change one day which can, in turn, change one week, and so on. Start today by just staying focused and tomorrow, add staying focused and staying hydrated. This can ensure you are staying healthy.
